The 76th BKCC-DCSC Under 14 yrs old and below Club Rapid Chess Tournament will kick off again on October 1, 2011 at Blue Knight Chess Club along along Bonifacio St. Davao City. The tournament is a one day event supported by the Davao City Sports Council will kicks off  10:00 AM. Format will be 5 Rds Swiss system and time control is G/30 or 30 minutes each player to finish the whole game. The champion will received a trophy and 1st runner up and 2nd runner up will take home Chess instructional videos DVD. Club members may update their club ratings depending on their performance on the said tourney. Registration fee is Php 50.00 for non-members and Php 40.00 for club members.

Participants are limited to 24 slots only on a first can first served basis.

Ralph Reyes of Ateneo de Davao High School won the 75th Club Rapid Chess Tournament  held recently at the Blue Knight Chess Club located at Bonifacio St. Davao City.

Reyes succesfully paired with Zsuzsa Grace Tabudlong of University of Mindanao in the last round to emerged with a perfect score of 5 points in as many rounds.

Tied for 2nd to 4th at 4 points are Honey Grace Buenafe of San Isidro Elementary School, James Patrick Apolonio of University of Immaculate Concepcion and Rhobie Shayne Benogsodan of Sta. Ana Central Elementary School.

The tournament was organized by Blue Knight Chess Club and sponsored by the Davao City Sports Council.

Sur, Philippine Bodybuilding Sports Federation (PBSF) vice president for Mindanao, replaced former Davao City councilor Peter T. Lavina of table tennis. He will sit as president until 2013.

Sur, also corporate affairs manager of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, was chosen by 12 members present during the poll exercise. DCSCI has 18 active members, but six of them failed to show up.

“We are thinking of putting up fund-raisers. We will also start giving our annual dues just to have something to start with,” he added.

Sur said they will pay a courtesy call to Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and ask her to be their inducting officer.

He said they are open to welcome new members, although they still have to amend their constitution and by-laws to the existing membership set-up the sports body now has.

It can be recalled that DCSCI, which used to have 25 members, only catered to recognized local National Sports Associations (NSAs) in the past but non-NSA recognized organizations were accommodated in recent years.

“We are looking into new members. I have been talking with former members already and most are interested to return. They are very much welcome to come back,” Sur said.

Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (Paba) regional director Joaquin “Boy” Sarabia and Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (Pasa) regional director Deedee Gonzalez were elected first and second vice-presidents, respectively.

The rest of the new set of officers are Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (Patafa) regional director Belen Kempis Taala (secretary), Blue Knight Chess Club director NA Ronnie Tabudlong (assistant secretary), Davao City Bowlers Association (Daciba) president Ninfa Daclan (treasurer), Philippine Amateur Judo Association regional director Mariano Barayuga (auditor), Arnis Philippines Davao head Mario Palazuelo (business manager) and Davao Volleyball Association (Dava) president Shane Alagao (P.I.O.).

Others present during the election were Denise Bunayog of dancesports, Nell Jone Astudillo of muay thai and Hiroshi Sumiya of PVF.

DAPITAN CITY — Davao Region climbed to the second spot after Round 4 in elementary girls team event of the 2011 Palarong Pambansa chess competition at the Dipolog Convention Center in Dipolog City.

Davao City’s Ella Grace Moulic and Zsuzsa Grace Tabudlong drew with National Capital Region (NCR) players, 1-1, to earn a total of 5.5 points while Calabarzon Region kept its lead with seven points.

NCR led four other regions with 5 points. The secondary boys team of Austin Jacob Literatus and Kenneth Tabada retained the fourth spot with five points after drawing with Central Luzon, 1-1. NCR and Ilocos grabbed the top two positions with similar 6.5 points while six-pointer Western Visayas was in solo third.

Ilocos Region (7.5 points), NCR (6.5), Mimaropa (5.0) and Calabarzon (5.0) were among the top four. (MLSA)
